A 40 metre long insitu concrete beam is cast in Sky Road Co. Galway. Unlike the meandering stone walls of the fields below the 1.1 metre high beam strikes an emphatic, horizontal line spanning from one hill to another.

A2 Architects in collaboration with The Office of Public Works are currently on site with the refurbishment and additions to Ennis Garda Station, Co. Clare. Works include an upgrading of the former RIC Barracks (pictured), new universal access entrances, new forensics laboratories, new archives, new locker areas and external works.

A2 win ‘Best House’ for Folding House, Mardyke, Cork City at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2016. A2 previously won “Best House’ for Seaside House Co. Louth in 2011.

A2 are delighted to go to tender on our first public housing scheme in Sallynoggin, Co. Dublin. The 10no. A2 energy-rated units are built of brick and share a landscaped space incorporating a pocket garden, seating, refuse storage, bicycle racks and grassed car parking. Incorporating plans, models, photographs and films, the exhibition and book DEMO:POLIS by Akademie der Künste Berlin illustrates how architects, city planners, artists, students and the general public design and use public space. Examples range from Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York, to Granby Park in Dublin, to the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin. The exhibition shows spatial designs that affect both small squares as well as entire strips of coast. It displays documentation from demonstrations and critical art interventions and gives insights into the work of successful bottom-up initiatives for safeguarding public spaces. Viewers are invited to take part in interactive discussion events to co-create the cities of the future. On display are works by Barkow & Leibinger, Foster + Partners, Hans Haacke, A2 Architects and Seán Harrington Architects, Kleihues + Kleihues, Lacaton & Vassal, Andrés Mignucci, Elfi Mikesch, Rozana Montiel, Michael Najjar, Sadar + Vuga, Michael van Valkenburgh, Wermke/Leinkauf, Zuloark, et al.

A2 are invited to present IMPORT EXPORT, a lecture and exhibition of A2’s recent work at The School of Architecture, University of Nottingham as part of the School’s ‘Beginnings, Middles and Ends’ Lecture Series. The exhibition is located in the EEC Space and runs until June 2016.

A2 gain planning permission for two new terraced mews houses in Rathmines, Dublin. The two 4.5metre wide houses are to be constructed of stepping brick facades to both the front and rear. Window and door openings are kept bold and simple. Roof terraces are provided on at roof level to both front and rear.

A2 are commissioned by The Office of Public Works to design a new campus building comprising ten classrooms for the Garda Síochána College in Templemore, Co. Tipperary. The college is a modern university campus located at McCan Barracks and is the national centre for police training, development and education within the Irish State.

A2 are delighted to collaborate again with Oonagh Young Gallery on a ‘pinwheel scaffold’ exhibition installation for artworks by artists Fiona Mulholland and John Rainey. Fitzpatrick & Henry are fabricating the scaffold made from 100x100mm red deal sections that are dovetail-jointed to one another. The exhibition opens December 10th and is funded by ID2015
